Aging by Design

Longevity without infrastructure leads to crisis.

Aging by Design brings the systems behind longer lives into view—so individuals, families, and communities can prepare with intention before crisis makes the decisions.

Aging by Design

Six interconnected systems. One later life.

Aging by Design is a framework for approaching longer life with intention rather than waiting for crisis to force decisions. Longevity touches far more than health—it depends on the interconnected systems that shape how we live, care, plan, connect, and find purpose. By strengthening these systems before they are urgently needed, we can turn longer lives from a growing challenge into an opportunity for human flourishing in later life.

“Longevity is not primarily a medical achievement. It results from multiple systems working together.”

About the Author

Where systems thinking meets human experience.

Duanni Hurd’s perspective has been shaped across technology, aging life care, entrepreneurship, and community service—and by her own family’s experience navigating long-term care. More than a decade working inside the care economy showed her how deeply health, caregiving, finances, housing, family, and community are connected, even when the systems supporting them are not.

Those experiences became the foundation for Aging by Design, her framework for approaching longer lives with greater intention. Today, through writing, speaking, advising, and community engagement, Duanni explores how better systems, environments, relationships, and choices can enable human flourishing in later life.
